Acadia National Park in Mount Desert Island

I've been here many times on my yearly vacation. This time in soup was cold and the wrong size as the person taking the order was no tne one getting the order together. The Lobster BLT was very good and with the soup and drink was over $33.00 !!!

I had a vegan hummus wrap and juice. It was so delicious.

Bagels smelled awesome from the street, looking for some carbohydrates for our type one diabetic child so we could get through a big day of shopping. I was really disappointed with this service. We waited in line a busy saturday morning, and we were told that the person before us was the last breakfast order they were taking. They explained they weren't taking breakfast orders anymore because they had too many orders, it would be too long of a wait, and it would stress out the staff worker making the food. So, we ordered coffee, agreed to the suggested 20% tip then stepped out of line,only to hear the very next people ordered breakfast without an issue! My family was bummed. What an unfortunate experience!

A little bit funky but not overly. Not your corporate coffee shop. Coffee is high quality plus a large selection of breakfast items, smoothies, etc. Counter service is efficient and friendly enough. Prices are fair for the locale and ambiance.

Great place! The owner was super friendly and knowledgeable. The hot chocolate hazelnut coffee was exactly what I was craving!! I would totally recommend the Thanksgiving panini it was delicious!!!

It doesn't get better than coffee at The Independent, but don't skip ordering a tasty sandwich - creative flavor combos that are delicious. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I love that they are now offering local products - jams, jellies, ground coffee, candles, craft beer and more.

Cashier forgot our order and made us wait 30min for a 4min order even though we were sitting right in front of him. He made it worse by flirting with his girlfriend the whole time and when we finally asked about our order he blamed us by saying he wished we would have said something!

These guys seem to really like their jobs and serving customers with a smile. We had to wait a bit though for our lemonade as they were really busy. It was the Fourth after all. Comfortable seating area.

Very good coffee specially the one from Costa Rica

We came in for a quick bite- a sandwich and a salad. When I asked what came in each salad (as there was no menu description” I was told “I have a bunch of vegetables and meats back there so whatever you want”. There is a price difference between the two and when I asked what was the difference the response was “you get more bang for your buck”. Still unsure what that means- but ok. My partner got a lobster sandwich and was very disappointed with the amount of lobster in it. The price was comparable to anything else we’ve had with lobster in it, with 1/5 of the actual lobster meat. It tasted just okay. Would not go out of my way to return.

Decent iced coffee. Pleasant atmosphere. Post lunch trash was overflowing in the trash can and piled up at the coffee station.

Our sandwiches were so yummy, the workers were nice, and the prices are more than fair. We will definitely come back!

Great food and staff, great prices but the lobster is a bit spendy (totally worth it)Also provide paper straws!

Bad service. Asking about the tip out loud with only giving a 15 or 20 percent choice (embarrassing customers not to tip in front of others and having only two choices) while having only a take out service. Selling cold beer while not having any seating area.

Come here for your morning coffee or if you’re looking for a quick breakfast bite. Great on both accounts.

We came in to escape the rain and enjoy some hot coffee. They have a great menu and fantastic prices offering standard cafe fare done excellently and some Maine classics to go with them. The coffee was excellent and the food came out quick and tasted excellent. additionally the service was fantastic and the servers very knowledgeable and friendly.

Food was of decent quality, though be aware that unless you tell them otherwise, the impossible burger will have Siracha on it. Service was a whole other issue: we were pressured into tipping for takeout “15 or 20%”- and despite that, we had to request that our takeout be bagged (as opposed to carrying out three separate containers).

Cute little stop for a cup of joe, cold or hot. Right across from the village green park. They have a great selection of breakfast and lunch options. Including a lobster b.l.t., yum. There is a nice seating area for a far number of people. And the service was really fast

Cute and cozy. Staff is friendly. Owner is talkative and nice ( not as bad thing!!) The chai smoothie is delicious! And the pumpkin pie latte is yummy too! New place but it's awesome!

Okay, so this place has always had great coffee, but several years ago the food got really, really good here! Always a please place for coffee and lunch. Great location right across from the Village Green.

Food was ok (soggy panini). My main complaint is all the disposables. Paper plates and plastic forks for a $10 basic sandwich? No cups for water? Come on, you can afford a dishwasher and to treat the planet a little better!

They make a great sandwich! I had the lobster brie panini which was about as good as it gets. Nice leisurely atmosphere, friendly staff and quality food.

Espresso and WIFI in a place where network service is non existent... Really cool vibe also

My favorite spot in Bar Harbor, their sandwiches are tasty and generous, and the genius of the chai smoothie is not to be missed.

The food was alright, although the two times that we tried the service was poor. The first time, it took 30 minutes to make 4 sandwiches to go, making us late for the rest of our activities on the island. The second time, they forgot to put cream cheese on two of our bagels. Nice location, alright food, poor service.

We had a fantastic experience at The Independent today. Tim & his team are incredibly warm, friendly and inviting. A clear mix of locals among the cruise passengers, which is always a great sign. Fast, efficient service - even though we placed a large order. And all with a smile and friendly conversation! Fresh, locally roasted coffee (all within the last week). The Thanksgiving Day panini is a MUST try! We would highly recommend coming in for a visit and a coffee. Thanks for a memorable experience in Bar Harbor, Tim!

Nice people wide variety good food quality

The coffee was amazing at this place! But when my husband went in for a lobster roll they charged him $50 for a sandwich!!!!! Oh and a bag of chips! Please make sure you ask prices ahead! I restaurant down the street had them for $11.

This place is right in the best of the busy part of Bar Harbor. I just hit a coffee here, but, it's a nice place. The latte I purchased was very good. The atmosphere is freaky nice in here!

Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Was very happy with the options.

Me and my boyfriend loved this place so much we stopped by in the beginning of our visit to bar harbor and on our way out! The white hot chocolate was so great and watching the gentleman make it I could tell he's dedicated to his craft. The cafe itself has books on the tables and a welcoming vibe all around even to us New Yorkers!

We needed a place to watch the whole second week of Wimbledon and they were very gracious and accommodating. The food was great, coffee was delicious and you can't find friendlier servers.

The sandwiches here are easily the best in the area and reasonably priced plus the smoothies are amazing! Nothing better on a hot day.

Amazing place with really sweet people. Their juices were great. I bought a coffee cup (the seashell ones) and it's 100% worth it. I loved this place on my trip.

We were looking for an organic chai latte. Went to another place and all they had was the powder sugar garbage. Came in here and found organic liquid base chai latte! Friendly guy with an awesome spot. Local art on walls and a great food menu with fresh pressed juice and folk music on the speakers!

Food was better than average and staff was friendly. Seemed to be required to leave a tip if paying by credit card. No sure why I had to tip since I ordered the food at the counter and picked up my food. Table not cleaned. Hard to justify a gratuity more like a table service fee. Sandwichs were 10 dollars and were good. I would probably return.

We visit Bar Harbor every year and my whole family agrees that this is the best cafe. Fast service, super friendly staff, best food. Literally the only concern my kids had was “Is the Independent going to be open this summer?” Due to Covid. Anyhow definitely eat here. Prices are also good for family budgets and they have a clean restroom.

Good banana bread, barista seemed overwhelmed, my order seemed like a pain in the butt for her to take. Atmosphere wasn’t great. Dust on table.

The best place to stop and get a quick and affordable lunch or breakfast in Bar Harbor. Our sandwich was taking a little longer than usual so while we sat at the bar waiting the cashier let us sample some left overs from one of their smoothies and gave us a blueberry crumb cake to try. Both were amazing and showed that their customer service was on point.

Whenever I am in town, the first stop is at this lovely café. Amazing lemonade, perfect espresso, fresh tea, and great muffins!

Nice cafe! But the woman working yesterday tipped herself $2 on my card without asking me first...

Got tuna sandwich here, very delicious and large size, price is reasonable and the staffs are very nice. Also the location is good, just on the main road of the town. Recommend if you need a quick bite.
